Looks to me like they are basically a wash. Gunbot shows maybe $0.02/rd premium for the .40.

    Is this typical?

I'd like to pick up a 9mm, but if there's not much savings to be had, I'll stick with .40 for range fun.

Or is it just reloading where 9mm gets suddenly super cheap?

i can reload .40 pretty damn cheap. as far as factory ammo, IIRC walmart had $14/50 for 9mm and $17/50 for .40. seemed about right to me.

I've had pistols in both calibers and ditched them all. For a measly .05-.08 per round...I'd rather shoot 45acp. I don't have the time to reload...talking factory ammo prices here.

I get 9mm for 22 cents a round and my 40 for 24-25 cents a round...only a wash if you order an abysmal amount of ammo...start order thousands at a time and it adds up.

    I suspect he meant .05-.08 cents more than 9mm or 40 S&W.
If not, then I want in on the group buy. :)

    Edit:
Quick check at MidwayUSA shows a .16 per round differential between Fiocchi FMJ .45 ACP 230 gr and 9mm 115 gr.

    9mm: 13.99 / 50 = 0.28 each
    40 S&W: 18.99 / 50 = 0.38 each
    .45 ACP: 21.99 / 50 = 0.44 each

Yes, I meant more per round and should have said .05 -.10. 9mm is up to $.30 unless you like driving around to Walmarts looking for 100 packs, and 40sw is $.36 -$.40. Midway is a bad source for ammo, limit of 2 boxes per type and the pricing is mediocre. Look around and you can find quality 45acp @ $.40 and sometimes get free shipping. I expect to see lots of ammo deals in the next month with black Friday and the holiday season....

i would buy online but most of the time after shipping its not a big enough savings to mess with.
I drive 3 min and pick it up for about .28 cents rd after tax

Yep shipping is normally what kills a good buy. That's why i typically buy local when i find it. I did go to freedoms site and everything i looked for was out of stock anyways.
