Stocks for the short actions.....just the stock, fetch close to 400 bucks. 300 for a long action. Guess some people are putting the stocks on othrr mkII and trying to pass them off as orig
There is a cult following for these things.
And prices are up there.
Ill hunt it if it doesnt sell. Bought it for a truck gun.
But I have anothrr rifle ( non stainless ) w a corrosion proof - supposedly - finish in a synth stock.
I was gonna hit the range yesterday, but family crap conspired against me.
Have some Hornady American Whitetail to try.
If its crappy weather, take it gun season.
I do like my Steyr PH, but it's a long action.
Ruger just p*sses me off w their crappy rings.
Still honked at #1s and their rib arrangement. Looks good, sucks if you don't have an old Leupold for it.
Even w offset rings, you'll need an older model of shallow turret body if using mediums.
I'm too old and cranky for this crap. But I wanted a short action bad weather deer rifle (since I have a long action).
Ideally a custom #1 in stainless w synth stock.........35 rem.
Then I'd dump my 760 Rem in .35 and the 77 in .308.
Hell I have 4 deer rifles, not counting the %$#@ muzzleloader.
And we are a 1 buck state.
Watch me zip one in bow and totally screw myself LOL
The M77MKII feels OK, actually don't care for the old tang model.
The zytel stock is OK too (but proly a slammer since it has the factory "pad").
Eh, I can take a whop.
Can't find the Pachmayr for it (discontinued). The Sims is available, but adds .5 to the LOP.
Plus I think they look horrible.
So factory (and Excedrin) it is.
However, the more I handle that goofy Steyr PH, the more I like it.
So...........maybe a CLII w 20" bbl.
At MSRP still a grand cheaper than I can build a #1 with a deal on a donor.
Question: since it was tough to remove the paint, does that give any indication of how well the paint would stay and how resistant it is to cleaning chemicals?
I'm considering going off the rails and painting my AR...you know...in case I have to go into combat.
Some paints stick and wear better than others.
Dunno how much material and surface prep plays into it.
The dude that painted the rifle I bought, whatever "tan" (a bit more yellowish) he used, actually stained the plastic.
Took some real elbow grease to get it out.
I've used Rustoleum on glass filled polyester stocks (Rynite) and they cleaned up fine.
Dunno what the Ruger all weather stock material is.
