Trying desperately to find ammo for this rifle. Finally tracked down a main spring for it and had a former member pick it up for me. Now I can't find the ammo to just run out and pick up on the way to the range. So does anybody reload it?

There was an article a while back that talked about trimming and resizing 30-06 brass.
I don't remember what magazine it was in but that's where google steps in.

The Handloaders Guide to Cartridge Conversions lists 7.7x58 Arisaka made as below.

Run 30-06 case into the 7.7 die with the expander removed. Trim to length & chamfer. Full length size.

Use a good lube and a very strong press because there is quite a bit of forming being done in this conversion.

I sourced some for about 24 bucks for 20 rounds but it would be nice to see someone pop up that has actually done some load development with this round. Heard factory ammo is alright but with reloads done right this rifle has great accuracy.

I seen a type 38 in bradis the other night. Uses 6.5x50mm

I gotta get a jap rifle before they get way out of price range. These rifles are just unique. None made anymore. Hopefully there will be more made some day.

I don't think the Arisaka is going to ever go back into production. You better get one while you can.

I wouldn't see there being much demand for a new production Arisaka because for what it would cost to set up tooling they would have to ask as much as any other new rifle. The only reason ammo is available is because there are enough rifles floating around out there to make it profitable. The 7.7x58 is still a seasonal run with Hornady and Norma.

You've got me kind of interested in this round purely because of the forming from 30-06 case. It sounds like fun trying to smash that case to a much more tapered form. I'm weird like that though. A big reason I switched from 223 to 6.5 TCU is because I get to reform the case and fireform it.

Go look at some range shots on youtube of the Type 99 a lot of guys getting an amazing amount of accuracy out of hand loads at long distances.. I wonder if I could qualify apple seed with this thing hahahahaha

Had what I thought was a7.7 [.31 jap] , had all the normal features , cuts for the receiver cover, elongated bolt-knob, goofy safety knob on the rear of the bolt...And it
was suppose to have been taken from a japanese soldier . Turned out it was a chinese
Mudken mauser made during the occupation .7.7 fit with some effort but key-holed
at 25 yrds. Had to buy a book on mausers to figure it out. It was 8mm which makes me
wonder if 8x57 could be made into 7.7x58 without problems ?
