Do you have any pic's yet? I would love to see it. I just built a 458socom (rra upper) and was thinking about the 450 also.
450 should be legal starting 2012. Mine cycles just fine.
I got the 20" for two reasons..about 100 fps more than a 16"..no big deal but it also gets the noise farther away. The .450 is well balanced with the 20" and "just feels right" and the barrel is not real heavy.and, would you recommend the 16" or 20" barrel?
The .450 IS legal starting this year. Don't know where anyone heard the .450 doesn't cycle well. I've run a little over 50 rounds thru mine so far with zero problems. Most of those have been out of a Sig 556 30 round magazine. The Sig mag will hold 12 rounds I've read, I only load 10 in mine.
As far as ammo, the only factory ammo that I know of is from Hornady and Remington. The Hornady ammo is loaded with the same bullet as the .44 Mag LeverEvolution. That bullet from my experience with my 77/44 is that it is deadly on deer.
For more info on the .450 go to 450bushmaster.net. A guy on there that posts with the name wildcatter is the man that developed the .450 round.[/QUOTJust to clarify..The 450 BM does use the FTX Hornady but it is 250 grain where as the .44 mag uses a 220 grain and of course it is a different diameter. It appears even in the .452 diameter, that the BM uses, these FTX bullets are made 'somewhat' caliber specific..The 225 grain FTX .452 is made for the .45 Long Colt and max. velocity is around 1150 and the 200 Grain FTX .452 is made for the .460 Smith with velocities us to 2,250. Guys have loaded the 200/225 in the BM. I have some 200s that I will load but to deer hunt with the 200/225 the 225 might be to fragile.. The Hornady .452 XTP-Mags are a good bullet at an much cheaper price but the FTX 250 is a great bullet and feeds perfectly and is very accurate. Ramblin' on..sorry
The Hornady 8th Edition Reloading Manual has all the info.. There are lots of options/powders/bullets but the load I have been using is.. 35gr. of Lil Gun with the 250 FTX.... 35.4 gr of Lil Gun is listed at 2,100 fps...Max load is 37.9 for 2,200. Shot a coyote with this at 70yds..instant lights out.I finished building my newest addition to the collection. I ended up using the 20" upper. As of right now i am using the hornady factory ammo. Does anyone have any input on loads for this rifle, preferrably something that would work good for deer.
where are you guys getting 450 bushmaster upper. Im trying to find an upper and am having trouble. It is legal in Indiana 2012
...and they are very accurate. The Hornady 240 XTP-mag bullet is less than 1/2 the price of the 250 FTX bullet. For the 240 XTP-mag you get 100 for 26.95 and the 250 FTX bullet is about $28.00 for 50. The 300 XTP-mag is 19.995 for 50..The 240 is a ''bargain''.
I've been loading the 225gr horandy XTP's, backeddown pressure wise for better accuracy. 100 bullets were $20 vs $28 for 50 of the 250gr "official 450 bullets"
It'll be a deer killer for sure, I'm using a 20" upper
