I just purchased a 40s&w so I will be starting to reload the caliber. So my question is what powder burns clean in this cartridge? I load 357&44 with unique and 2400, unique is dirtier than I want to shoot in the semi-auto. The pistol is a compact with a 3.4 inch barrel.
    THANKS,
    MATT

I think that WSF Winchester powder is best for full power loads. Just use Winchester data.

I am using TiteGroup right now. WW231 has done well for me in the past. The powders others listed above are good recommendations also

Power Pistol is pretty much THE powder for 40S&W.

6.2 grain for 180grain plated flat nose.

only complaint I've heard is some people don't like the muzzle report. I love the big fireball. If I'm firing it, I'd like to see it.

Well ill put my :twocents: and say Unique. I use it behind 180 gr plated berry's and it is extremely accurate and I don't notice anything being more dirty than shooting a box of WWB or Federal.

Unique has a reputation for not burning as clean as other powders, but that is largely due to the old formulation of Unique, which DID leave a lot of residue. Today's Unique is not nearly as bad, in this regard, but it's having a tough time shaking that reputation.

Longshot for full power loads. It makes the. 40 come alive for things like Bowling-Pins. Works great in 10mmon and 45I ACP to. Again, full power loads.
