    I have a G23 that I purchased in 1996. I am assuming it's a gen 2 but how can I tell. I have also been thinking about getting a G22. Based on posts should i be looking for an early gen 3 in this model?

    The biggest difference is the frames. Third have finger grooves and light rail, second gen does not. There is also a gen 2.5 which has finger grooves and no light rail.

    Yes look for an early model 3rd gen. I have a early gen 3 G22 and it shoots 9mm and .357 sig with no FTF or FTE problems.

    My favorite is the 3rd gen and until a gen 5 comes out it shall always be.
