Retail price on the BL-22 was $850.
Owner's price reflects visual imperfections on a used rifle.
Bore looks great, lever action is slick and owner said it shot the well.
Selling for an older friend and INGO member who is trimming the safe b/c he has two of them.
He is keeping the wife's "prettier" BL-22 Grade 2 model which includes receiver engraving, checkering and gold trigger.
He bought this Browning BL-22 Grade 1 model earlier this year from an INGO member who owned it for a long time.
He was glad to get it since they rarely come up for sale even though they have been produced over 50 yrs. Normally, owners seem to hang on to them and pass them down.
This gun is classic and does not disappoint for anyone wanting a lever action.
I read an extensive article comparing the BL-22 to the Henry and Taylor & its accuracy was a bit better than both.
The BL-22 is one of Browning’s most classic and iconic rifle designs.
It was introduced in 1969, originally manufactured in Belgium.
Production moved to Miroku in Japan in the 1970s and this rifle was made in Japan.
Don't know the year of manufacture, but the serial number is the key to that.
There are 5 variants of the BL-22, and this one is the basic Grade 1 model, nothing fancy.
Over the years, Browning has offered a variety of blinged-out BL-22 models depending on the bulge in your wallet.
Comments from an extensive comparative article testing the BL-22:
- Rifle is lithe in hand.
- What sets the BL-22 apart from other lever-action rimfires is the short-throw lever.
- BL-22’s lever arcs only 33 degrees to fully eject a spent shell, and the trigger pivots with the lever.
- Depending on your hand size and strength, you can cycle the action by opening your shooting hand and closing it.
- We found it super fast, and in fact, it spoiled us when we went back to the other lever actions.
- After using the BL-22 then the Henry or Taylor, the shorter stroke spoiled us over the more traditional rifles.
- Top of the receiver is grooved for mounting a scope.
- Iron sights are made of steel, and the front-sight base is dovetailed into the barrel.
- Rear sight has a notched insert that is adjustable for elevation with white-hashmark indicators.
- For windage adjustments, you need a hammer and punch to tap the sight over.
- the rear sights were dead on and did not need adjusting.
- Rear sight also folds to allow for scope clearance.
