stay away from russian made ammo, ie wolf, tula, etc.

Ive had nothing but cycling problems with them in M1 carbines. They will fire, but they dont have enough power to cycle the bolt reliably.

What ammo would you recommend? I plan on buying different brands too see how they work anyways. What ammo would you recommend for HD, I have some Federal Powershok soft points?

I've had no issues with brass cased surplus ammo, though most of it is corrosive.

I've also never had any issues with major US manufacturers (ex: Winchester, Remington, etc) brass cased ball ammo.

I agree about the steel cased ammo. It gave me nothing but grief in the way of malfunctions and extractor problems.
Aguila is pretty dirty burning and can be borderline reliable. It's loaded fairly weak.
I've had good luck with Prvi. It too is somewhat underpowered.
For HD use pick up a few boxes of Speer Gold Dots which are supposed to be top of line for HD. It is scary expensive though.
As far as ammo in bulk you're going to have to be patient. Like they were saying earlier the demand for ammo is high and. 30 Carbine takes a backseat to other calibers on the production lines.
I've not seen much of it available for several months now.

I probably could try one, but I really don't shoot it often enough to justify. Maybe one day Ill play with it some more.

I thought that I had read somewhere that the steel stuff was breaking extractors on USGI Cabines. Might not be exactly right but something along those lines. I stick to USGI ammo and S&B or WWB when it's around.

I was just at walmart in Michigan city and they had 50 round boxes for $27 per box. I agree that's crazy. Also just left gun show St blue chip casino and saw three universal carbines each at least $625 . All the prices were thru the roof and very little bargaining .
