Most all of the .22LR AR-15s I've seen thus far seem to be so dedicated to .22LR only that they are made of polymer all over and are somewhat undersized. Are there any AR-15s out there sold with .22 uppers that have a mil-spec lower receiver that can accept a standard 5.56mm upper? Or is it just as well to purchase a lower receiver only with a .22 upper?

Other than the weight difference my M&P15-22 is pretty darn close to my Colt.

I have a CMMG .22 upper on a standard ar lower. Pop the two pins and you can change from .22 to 5.56 in about 10 seconds.

The M&P 15-22 is hard to beat. Ours has been very accurate and extremely reliable. I started out with a Spike conversion and was not overly pleased with it in terms of reliability.

Yes, but the M&P15-22 is a DEDICATED .22 platform, meaning, you cannot use the lower on a real AR-15, and you cannot attach the .22lr upper to a .223 lower. It doesn't matter how much it *looks* like a real AR-15, the cross platform functionality is not there. I'm not knocking the MP, just clarifying what the OP asked about.

Its a little lighter and the trigger is a bit different, but I think it works just fine as a basic training aid. Sure beats a blue gun :dunno:

What advantage does a dedicated .22 upper solve over a 15-22? Different trigger I'm guessing?

In the last few months I've shot both the S&W M&P15-22 and the Mossberg AR .22 variant. I was surprised that despite the differences in reputation, the Mossberg actually shot and performed better. I can understand how many folks would like the S&W better, it has more similarities to the big boy M&P, and I can understand wanting to find a quality drop in for your AR, but if you can't I would recommend giving the Mossberg a try.

Aside from size and polymer the M&P15-22 is almost identical to a 223 lower
    Whats the problem here

100% matching 223/22LR does not exist
If you want your 223 lower with a 22upper buy a 22upper with a 223 lower. You wont find a 22 that you can mix and match with a 223
    100% unless its a 22 upper

pls correct me if im wrong

Same trigger and if you're running barrles shorter than 16" you don't have to pay for two stamps.

Bought a CMMG upper for my son to shoot. Work very well and very accurate. Only drawback I found with it was that the plastic charging handle failed on round 8. I was lucky that I brough a .223 upper as well and just switched charging handles. Otherwise works great and is very accurate.

The boy popped tomatoes at 35 yards and had about 1 inch group his first time out. (With red dot)

I like the dedicated uppers for some reason. Eventually this will be his rifle and he can upgrade it as required/desired.
