Not wanting to get into the ".22 is not adequate" debate here. But, if you had to carry a .22 for SD what would you choose? What ammunition?

A accurate semi-auto loaded with at least high speed. I would hope something like stingers would be accurate out of it. I don't really have a favorite gun, just a type.

Just for the record, I feel an accurate .22 with at least high speed ammo is a adequate firearm.

.22 Mag - CCI Maxi-Mag or equivalent. You're most likely not going to get any expansion and you'll need to unload the gun on whatever your threat is.

I sure wouldn't want to get hit by it, but i sure wouldn't want to be carrying it, either.

id probably go sig mesquito (spelling?) it has a tac rail and 10 shot mag. remember a 22 you will actually carry is more deadly than a 50 deasert eagle you left at home

If I were to use a semi-auto, I'd either look into the hottest round I could find

    or

I'd get some of the 60gr. stuff if it were .22LR

    But a .22mag would trump a .22LR

I would carry my Walther P-22, it's very reliable and has good sights. Put the shot where it should be and the 22 will do the job, but not really my first choice.

I've never been able to get the Aguila 60gr SSS round to cycle a semi (although it's not intended to so there's no loss there) but that might be a pretty good round in a revolver. :dunno:

I would go with a Beretta 21 A and load alternately Hypervelocity HP (yellowjacket of Aguila 40Gr) and the heaviest solids I could find that functioned well. I know the Aguila Hyper velocity 40gr. solids are jacketed and function great in my 2 M21A's.

I have had a M21A for 20 years and it has been reliable with anything I have loaded it with. The tip up barrel allows you to load bird shot, cb caps or anything else that is not intended to cycle the action. I like it so much, I bought another from an INGO member this year to put away. Small gun, well engineered.

I often carry my P22 and an extra mag loaded with CCI Stingers. I feel perfectly comfortable with .22 LR for standard CCW purposes as long as the ammo is quality.

what ever .22 you pick if it is a semi auto make sure you test lots of difeerent ammo in it. My experince on the sub compact .22 autos is that they are real picky about what ammo the will feed consistantly. I would go with the revolver of your choice......:twocents:

I would not want to get hit with any round, however if I was to carry I would go with .22 mag. You are looking at depending on your load 800+ more fps. I would carry the heaviest load you can find.
