No offense, but at our club, the S&W 22A and Beretta Neos have both been used by competition shooters. Neither gun held up well to a lot of shooting. The Browning Buckmarks do better, but the Rugers always have held up to a lot of shooting. I started competition shooting with a Ruger many years ago. I now shoot a Marvel Conversion and a Hammerli 208s.

For me, its Browning Buckmark, hands down. Shooting both the Ruger and Browning side by side, both are accurate but the buckmark is lighter and feels better in my hand. You can lighten the trigger pull on the buckmark by doing a 5 minute mod that costs nothing. Great gun!

Recently got into handguns, I have a 9mm but am looking for a .22 to shoot target and probably competitions eventually with. Was wondering what a good starter would be. Have been looking in the classifieds for something but am just to slow. Any advice is appreciated

You can't beat a Ruger Target model Mark lll. They will outlast you by many generations.

My Ruger MK l has around 30,000 rounds through it, still shoots great.

Ruger 22/45....Mine has 6 or 700 rounds through it with zero issues...

Plus 1. cant go wrong with the ruger 22/45 plenty of parts to do what you want/replace/repair (not that they ever really break) and they run like a sewing machine!

Can't go wrong with a Ruger or Buckmark but if you want to spend some more cash the Beretta 87 is one fine piece of work.

Just took my Christmas gift, a Browning Buckmark Hunter out for it's first trip to the range. I will have to give my vote for this gun. My son and I ran through about 400 rounds of various brand ammo with no feed problems at all. Shot nice tight groups at 15 yards. Nice gun for plinking and shooting with your kids (if you have them).

M&P 22. Great shooter and good to train on.

A Ruger mark III or a Buckmark are also solid choices.

All depends on what you want to do with it. For general target shooting/plinking about any will work for that purpose. For Competition, you need good triggers, accurate barrels, good balance, and must function flawlessly.

    Inexpensive
    Ruger's (workhorses, last forever)
Ruger 22/45 (1911 grip angle, nice if shooting Bullseye Competition)
Buckmark's (shot my 1st Master round with one, nice triggers, accurate)

IHZ target 22 (forget the model no.)
