Thank you for the information. I have dabled with reloading but with 2 babies running/crawling around I don't have the time or resources to dedicate. Do you all have any contacts that do load development. Of the shelf ammo has been spotty at best and I would really like a sub-moa load pushing the heaviest projectile possible.

There are several 62ish grain 0.224" bullets with lengths around 0.75" and below. Say a Sierra 1370 or a Norma 65705 would stabilize in a 12" SAMMI 22-250, which should get them to 3500 fps easily

    Just think this bears repeating.
From my 22-250 Remington 700 HB with a 1 in 14" twist, I can get pretty good groups from the Sierra 63 grain SMP. It's a short bullet because of the semi point, (shorter than 50 grain ballistic tips) but it works great.

I shoot 75 gr amax's out of my 22-250 Ackley at just over 3600 fps 1/10 twist I can tell you from experience it is FLAT out to 500 yards at 700 yards its falling out of the sky bad.. I would switch to 6mm or 6.5mm for longer distance shooting.. I will say though would not give up my 250 for coyotes out to 600 yards ever.. I have taken prarie rats when you have time to dope the shot out to 800 yards on more than one occasion!!

If a 75 AMax at 3600 fps is "falling out of the sky bad" past 700, you are breathing some rarefied air. You should be practically there with the barrel length you must be running.

What 6 or 6.5 load would you run in its place?

Hornady is making some good stuff now. Been several years ago but me and my friend as having a lot of success with the Hornady 50gr. V-max's. He has a 22-250 and I was shooting a 222. Shot the 222 at 300yds and the 22-250 at 500yds.

Agree about getting out this post or I will looking for another Rem 700 and scope. Think long before ever selling your guns.

6.5 284 ackley 142 matchkings bc at .595 at 3250 ft per second and its dropping also.. my 6mm-06 ackley is pushing a 105 gr burger vld 3350 ft per second with a bc of .556.. Wind does not effect either nearly as bad as the 22 caliber.. My wildcat 338 pushing 300 grain matchkings (bc at .768) at just over 3000 ft per second, it also is dropping but again wind does not bother it as much as the 6.5 or 6mm... My point was bullet weight and BC makes a huge diffrence at LONG distances.. I do not claim to know it all but I do shoot alot out in Wyoming and Central Nebraska where your neighbors are far far away and do alot of practical shooting on Coyotes and Prarie Rats. Thats what I am basing my statement on.. a 22 caliber bullet with a bc of 435 is low compared to any of those other bullets.. So its gona drop but the speed makes up for it at closer distances.. Like I said before love my 22-250 ack for point and KILL out to 500 way better than all the others the 6mm is a close second.. Not looking for a arguement just based on my experience.. I am always learning and always open to new input. :twocents:

    A 308 Winchester shooting a 175gr Matchking @ 2700fps will drop 10.9 mils and drift 2.9 mils @ 1000yd, assuming 100yd zero, 10mph crosswind and sea level/standard atmosphere.

    A 22-250 shooting a 75gr A-Max @ 3200fps will drop 8.1 mils and drift 2.7 mils over the same distance & conditions....a 90gr Berger VLD @ 3000fps (need a 7" twist barrel) drops 7.6 mils and drifts 2.0 mils.

Of course, the price one pays for those ballistics is barrel life.

My 260 Rem shoots the 130gr Berger VLD @ 3000fps...which has the same ballistics as the 90gr VLD, but more powder/recoil and probably double (or more) the barrel life.
