    .204 Ruger- Update- It begins...

Helped an Uncle dial in his new .204 Ruger AR build this weekend. 24" fluted DPMS bbl from Brownells. We were seeing 3988 ave fps with Hornady factory loads.

I'm really getting the itch for a .204 build. Any Ingoers with experience and/or opinions with this critter?

Looking like a winter build project.

    Regards,

    :ingo:

The .204 is a great varmint round! Coyotes, prairie dogs, etc. I had a 24" AR varminter in .204 and sold the upper only because I didn't want to chase brass on the prairie and I'm not a fan of brass catchers. It shot 1/2" at 200 yards on several occasions with different shooters. Clearly a very capable gun. We shoot the round in CZ & Savage bolt guns a lot. Sierra 39 Blitz Kings shoot very well in every .204 we've had.

    I have a Howa 1500 Sporter in .204 Ruger.
It's a very flat shooting rifle.
My only "complaint" (more just an observation) it is LOUD!
    Like it a lot.

Thought about 204 until I realized the ammo cost is ridiculous. Bought a Stag 6 Varminter 223/5.56 which comes with a 1/2 MOA guarantee instead.

A friend of mine let me play a little with his. Super loud and the round was so small I couldn't tell if I even hit the target. It didn't create any splash in the dirt on the berm. Ended up sticking it back in the case and going back to my rifle. I think ammo is expensive and it being so small a pain to hand load for.

I would stick with .223 unless had a specific need for the .204.

    Sounds like golden information here.
I've always been intrigued with the .204. I really eyed ^^his^^ upper when he had it for sale in the classifieds. I see why he sold it now.

Wonder what kind of accuracy one could tweak out of a T/C Encore in .204?
