My grandfather brought home a 1934 model Mauser from WWII. We know very little of how he acquired it. I would like to get as much info on it as possible. I have done as much research on-line as I think possible. The serial number is very late in the run, but the markings are NAZI. If anyone knows anything about these guns, my family and I would appreciate the information. Thank you

My grandfather brought one home from the Phillipines, as Japanese Officers were required to purchase their sidearms. The more wealthy were able to purchase German handguns prior to the breakout of war, as soon after shipping from Germany to Japan became rather hazardous. The Mauser 1934 is a variation of the model 1914 and 1910 pistols and there are a few variations of them. Mine is a rare transition model with matching numbers but a mix of slide and frame. It is a military model with the wood grips. These are fantastic guns and if in good condition they shoot very well. Mine is in .32ACP but they were also made in .25 ACP. Very accurate and stable, due to the combination of the weight of the pistol and small cartridge it fires.

I don't know much about the gun, but when Hitler came to power in 1933, all firearms produced, be it military, police or civilian versions, had the mark of the reich on them. Be it a swastika or eagle over the swastika. I have a 1938 K98 and it has these marks all over them.

thank you for the help. My father may want to sell or trade it for something "bigger and more reliable." for home defense. If anyone knows a value, I would appreciate that info as well. I can e-mail pictures, but not sure how to post them on here.

It was actually 1939 before they began marking them with the nazi proof. Up until then they still had the old crown proof. I do not know why it took so long (5 years) after the Nazi's took power to change the proof marks.

    pre 39- Crown over p
    post 39_ N over p (for nazi)

My suggestion is to buy your grandfather the weapon he wants and trade it to him for that old mauser to pass onto your decendents. IMHO ofcourse.
