Had a few and never really got into them. I trained with tupperware guns and I guess they just fit/feel better in the hand. Don't have anything against 1911's, just not my style. Not to mention .45 ammo costs for most 1911 frames compared to some smaller calibers.
You just havent found the right one yet. There are all sorts of barrel, grip, and frame combinations and modifications. The 1911 is like the old GI joe doll for grown up men. If the 45 ACP is a turn off, you can always look for the neutered version in 9mm, or step it up and go for a 45 super or 460 rowland.
