Another vote for Chip McCormick shooting stars - work well and last a long time, provided you rotate them out and don't leave the same mag loaded for a long time.

For defensive carry I only use Colt factory magazines, but for range work I use Chip McCormick shooting star magazines.

I've run a lot of rounds through my MecGar mags (7 and 8 rounders) that I bought at the 1500 and have had no issues at all with them. MecGar get's my vote, though clearly I'm bucking the trend on this one.

I have used and competed for many years with McCormick Shooting Stars and never had one fail. I have seen quite a few Wilson mags crack at the rear of the lips. If your gun does not function 100% with a McCormick mag then there is a dimensional problem with your gun. The spring in an 8 rounder is tightly wadded in the bottom of the mag to get that 8 th round in. I always used 8 round McCormicks but only load 7. Much more reliable and decent spring life in my experience. A 7 round mag will maintain full spring tension much longer when left loaded than an 8 rounder. That's not something I read on the internet, it's from years of real world testing. A perfect spring made from perfect spring steel that is hardened, tempered and stress relieved perfectly will last forever. I have never seen such a spring. Springs made today are mass produced to a price point.

    Chip McCormick PowerMag+ fan here

    Wilson 47d's are great too

It's really just a matter of finding what your 1911 likes.

I'm a Chip McCormick man. I have 12 Chip mags, and I've never had a magazine FTF.

    Value HICKMAN's honesty here, I've heard he's a Glock fanboy... ;)
