What are your thoughts on mini-14's in the 180 series? Valuable collectables? Junk? Should they be locked away as a unique collector's item or fired until they fall apart?

Like Dave said. Neither junk or collectors, just great shooter. Good luck trying to fire one untill it falls apart. They will last forever.

I have a 186, and can't shoot it enough! With around a little over $100 in work these can shoot 1" @100yrds. Trigger work, reduced gas bushing, reduced recoil spring, and barrel stabelizer. Also changed the stock over to an API Strikeforce for anouther $89 just because it looked TACTICOOL W/BSA Stelth side focus wheel scope.

The only issue you will have with a 180 series mini is that Ruger no longer services or has parts for them only the newer versions. Other than that they are a handy well handling rifle that should serve you well.
