I just picked up a 10mm EAA Witness and want to start loading for it. Most of my loadings are FFG or FFFG so need help on what is a good powder to use for the 10mm to give the numbers that first came out with the 10mm. I want more than the light load .40 s&w. I would like to get close to the .41 mag loads.

I strongly recommend the load recipes found in a modern, current reloading manual. And I would stay away from FFG or FFFG in a 10mm. ;)

Hornady has modern load data in their books and I used to use bluedot. I think the max load for bluedot under a 200gr bullet was under 10 grains so it's not like you're going to burn up much powder going that route and it metered very well in my 550B.

    Mid to slowish pistol powders.

From say, Universal to No.9. AutoComp, Power Pistol, SR4756, No.7 fit in that range.

I'll put a plug for Titegroup. It'll give you the fastest velocities of any Hodgdon / IMR powder, and you don't need much.

    Spank those bullets !

I second the nomination for Longshot. I've found it gives the best performance in full house 10 mm loads. I've crono'd 180 gr. XTP @ 1350 out of my 6 1/2" 610 using a max charge of Longshot. It's my favorite bowling pin load.
I doubt you could cram enough FFFG into a 10 mm case to get much velocity. Now 45 Colt is another matter.

Now off to the load manuals to see what they call for the amount of powder.I hope this cuts way down on the types of powder to use to find a good load.

Ramshot Sihouette is a great powder. Low flash and high velocity meters like water. Imr hi-skor 800x is 10 mm power all the way ,but meters like corn flakes. Accurate # 7 and 9 works great also, and meters like water. Good luck! The 10mm is a blast!

800x is not one I'd recommend for someone unfamiliar with reloading. It's a great powder but it gets very spikey near its high end.

Very true! I should have mentioned that. Also when I use 800 x ,I weigh each load on a scale. This and my post before is only advice .With anything on the Internet, do your homework before you dive in. Good luck and thank you shibum for bringing up a great point.
