I left it on so I can still pocket carry it when I need to. Like with gym shorts or sweat pants. It's a pain to have to put it on and take it off just to change carry methods.

I make mine with 3"x3" poplar wood for a nice light package. 8-9oz premium veg. leather. JRE industries black, green, pink, and bare leather to finish it off.
Look at zero tolerance folders. I like the 350 and 301. They are great knives with excellent warantees and are built like tanks. Spyderco is another company that offers some great stuff. I like the para military a lot. It's a nice size to cover a wide variety of EDC tasks.

Glad you didnt get hurt. Sometimes you just have to make due with what is available. That is the whole key to survival. Just be prepared that everything has its limits and when performing a task with a tool,or anything for that matter, that it is not designed for will always put you at risk...
