My question is- we all know how terrible the government is at inventory and keeping track of things is it possible that these 1911 didn't even exist and somebody screwed up at the clerical level? That's a lot of 1911s to go missing. At some point in time you would think somebody would either talk or get caught. People cant keep their mouths shut

With the amount of firearms while 98 sounds huge it’s probably a small percentage. And while they will lok into it if we don’t hear anything else the probability is it was an accounting/paperwork error. And anyone that has worked for the Government can tell you they can make a 98 item mistake!

Texas couple finds fully automatic military-grade M16s in storage cases purchased online
A couple in Houston recently discovered a number of fully automatic M16s inside gun storage cases they bought from an online government surplus store.www.ksat.com
Me “I found a case with 19 m16’s in it!”
ATF “normally there are 20 in a case?”
Me “DID I STUTTER!”
One of my sons was stationed at 29 Palms and a M4 came up missing when a few platoons came in from the back ranges.
Thats 1102 sq miles of base with most of it being ranges. The base was locked down for 2 1/2 days until it was found.
Same happened to my boy at Pendleton....
More like "Hey, does this empty m16 case I found have any value?"
ATF: " We'll take that from you."
Me: "Nah, I think I'll keep it."
ATF: *shoots dog before leaving*
