OK, I bought a budget version Century Arms AKMS under folder and I have itch, that appears to only go away when I hold another AK, this AK just flat shoots and I love it, We have a couple of AR's too so....

For the next AK :hooked:, should I get an AK47 or an AK74 ? My under folder is a 50" yards and in weapon

Stick with the 47 but instead of getting a cheaper made one get a maadi or mak-90.
I use to have cheap romanian ak's but only look for awesome built ones now

Mak 90's are nice. Come from the factory with double hook triggers. But IMHO if you are only going to have 1 AK make it a Bulgarian SA-93 or SLR 95. Milled receiver, chrome lined hammer forged barrel made by Steyr.

Norinco 223, norinco underfolder, valmet, maadi, Mak90, Saiga 7.62, Draco SBR, Saiga 12
Buy any of these and you'll be happy.

If you want to be thrilled ****less, order one of the new Vepr 12s that are on their way into the country.

vitamink, have you had counselling recently

Thanks for the info guys, defiantly the next one will have a stock of some sort. Being an ex-machinist, I like the milled receiver idea and I like sticking with the 7.62 caliber as well

I can see the safe being out of balance with 3 AR's , so a 3rd AK just plain makes sense

Or get rid of the AR's and get 6 AK's all together:D

I picked up a Norinco (stamped receiver) and installed Walnut furniture from Ironwood - also got a POSP scope with the Russian mount. Really like this setup.

Is 5.45x39mm surplus ammo still super cheap? If so, then getting an AK-74-alike is probably a good investment. They shoot well, have less felt recoil, and with the right ammunition terminal ballistics are very good.

not as cheap as it was. It used to be $120 per tin (1080 rounds), now its like $170 per tin. Still cheaper than commercial .223 like Wolf for a full power military cartridge.

Glad I got a little back then!

Is there a functional AK-74-alike that is roughly equivalent to a WASR-10 in terms of cost?

    2 come to mind.

    I) Century build 2 rifles, a bulgarian and a polish tantal. They were parts kits built on NoDak receivers w/ US barrels. Only 'downfall' is they dont have chrome lined barrels....... but all surplus 5.45 is corrosive, so you have to clean anyway. Only other thing I didn't like is the fugly stock on the bulgarian version.

II) There is also the Saiga 5.45 option, which is IMO the best option.

How much extra to put a collapsible stock on the Saiga?

I could make do with the shorter standard AK stock, I suppose.

to do it right? probably $150 -> $200

to just get by? you could throw a tapco fusion saiga one piece pistol grip/stock on it and go. I think they are like $75.

I'm a heretic in the AK world, probably, but I can't wrap my head around dolling them up, especially if it costs more than, like, $25.
