I'm up in Detroit visiting and casino attending. Had plans to go the range with a friend. Then one of my most liberal buddies (Uof M grad, extreme democrat, never would own a gun, etc.) wanted to go . Now he's got OK 2A views to start with (for ownership for non-felons, CC,minimal registration/badground checks) Anyway not to bad considering...

Anyway, He got to shoot P95, A P-11, a S&W .38, HiP[oint .380, and a Kimber .45. So he got quite run of the gammit.

He did pretty well except for becoming the only person to limpwrist ofrhave a FTE in my P95.
He acually shot OK from 7yds. :D
He got experience the range, gnus, and gun folk. He was pleaseanlty suprised and had a good converation with a biker type guy about home protection and protecting the "old lady and kids" before we arrived. he said the guy changed his perctions in a positive way too.
He's say he enjoyed but doeasnlt quite have the bug yet. Althuiugh did a lot of window gazing on the way out...
A few more times should do it. :evilangel:

He did say he thought the .45 would be good for the home and maybe a 410 or 20gauge IF he ever gets some.......;)

People invite folks who are gun ingorant to the range and let them see the "normalcey of guns in the hands of responsable, decent folks!
He ended up asking good questions that dispelled many myths he believed from other libs and bad press. He realized there are "signififcant misprepresentatioons" he had been taught about guns in the past.

Excellent job and thanks for sharing.

We all complain about liberals being anti's but few do anything about it, including myself I am ashamed to say. Although, I have known several liberals who were almost as nuts about guns as I am. So, political affiliation doesn't always imply hating or for that matter loving guns. I mean look at Dick Lugar.

Anyway, thanks for sharing our passion for firearms. Who knows, he may be an ally at the voting booth.

There is quite a large number of liberal gun owners. They share a love for the Constitution but have more "liberal" views when it comes to social/personal issues.

Exactly. He changed his own mind and asked the right questions. He wonl't be a victory until he's an owner. But he is now a memeber of a range that rents and is on his way home from work!!! :shady:

He will convert himself. Also him talking to others and seeing how normal they were helped. As did him seeing people of diverse backgrounds roaming the retail store attached to the range!

I'm what you most (including most here ) would call a moderate. He thinks I have a lot of right wing views but that I'm pretty liberal too. (Well duh! I ghues he knows his buddy well)

Best part is he can relate his psoitve exerience to others who are left leaning. It will challenge their thughts as well. And they all vote so.......we should try and do this at least 2 times per year.
I WILL report back if he buys a firearm.

Thats just not true. Your ideas fit Libertarians
The Constitution is about limiting government.
If they loved the Constitution so much they would want limited government.
Liberals vote for elected officals that expand government control.

They are centerists...BOTH parties have them and they share more in common than you might think. Centerists are much harder to label than the one farther out to the left/right due to the mixing of ideals.

    What myths were dispelled?

Did he notice that the guns didn't jump from the tables and start mass murdering everyone? :)

You know it's funny, my girlfriend and I are both libs but she's always been much more anti-gun that I. I convinced her to take a pistol class with me and she was kind of nervous leading up to it. She even pointed out that when we first sat down at our table across from a row of unloaded revolvers she felt a little uneasy. Of course, by the end of the class all that had disappeared--imagine that?

The smell of gunpowder and some good ole recoil, replaces worries with smiles almost always. :D
