Tonight is the SOTU. Obama is expected to announce/push his major tax increase proposal, tuition-free community college, "expanded access to broadband", and "aid to homebuyers"... among other things.

He wants to raise top cap gains tax rate to 28%; close trust fund loophole and impose a "fee" on biggest financial firms. He will say he wants to use new tax revenue to provide $500 tax credit to 2nd earner in families & tripling child care tax credit.

I would hope/expect the GOP-led Congress to destroy this push for billions in new taxes.

Obama wouldn't waste his political capital on this stuff when he had a friendly congress. Now he's just coasting out of office spouting socialist platitudes that will not go anywhere.

This. Quite a brilliant strategy actually. Make the GOP the bad guy so they lose in 2016. I may be the minority that thinks this, but I think the GOP victory in 2014 will seriously hurt their 2016 chances.

A cross-section of average Americans in 2016 won't even be able to correctly name which party controls which chamber of Congress, at a rate which is statistically significantly greater than 50%.

No, Chesty, the reason why Hillary will win in 2016, is the same reason Barack Obama won in 2008: you and your democrat buddies are going to _vote_ for her.
It really isn't any more complicated than that.
