I bought a minimal policy (10k deductible) for my self-employed daughter when she turned 27 last year. I paid about $170/mo with dental. Just went thru the Indiana website and scored a much better 'Silver' plan for her ($1250 deductible) with dental for just under $200. She was eligible for a $114/mo. subsidy. If I'd kept a similar 'Bronze' plan to what she had ($6350 deductible) it would have been $110/mo with subsidy. I'm hoping, down the road, she will pick up the tab. I was gonna post this in the 'Break Room', but, lemme guess, this is too political for their'y're..
Sucking off the gumm'int teat one more time. Period. End of story!

    You're welcome. (From the taxpayers.)

I for one am glad to know that you were able to actively participate in the downfall of medicine as we know it in this country! Lets give three cheers for declining quality of care! Hip, hip, Hooray!

The plan we had covered more of what we needed and cost less with a lower deductible. It was canceled because it didn't jive with Obamacare. The closest equivalent Obamacare plan more than doubles our premium and nearly triples our deductible all without increasing the coverages we want. I despise being told I have to purchase health insurance because I exist and am a U.S. citizen.

I'm not getting into a political discussion, but I know good, decent working people who have been helped by Obamacare. They're not all moochers.

    Why hate the player?

WE ARE ALL GETTING ****ED... one way or another. The system is at fault here... why blame the people for taking advantage of an unfair system? Blame those who created it...

@ the OP... good for you. Keep every dime you can and invest it in preparation for the collapse.

As much as I deplore ObamaCare and the philosophy it's predicated upon, I don't blame people for doing what they have to do to care for their families. This isn't over with yet. I've still got insurance through my job but I fully expect, at some point, I'll be forced to go on that web site and give all my personal information to some ACORN supporter-"navigator".

Nice people or not, the law is socialism.
    Socialism can also help people.
I believe it helps less people.

So this law makes it more "affordable"?
So how many doctors and lawyers has it hired?????????????????
Plenty of bureaucrats though. I'm sure adding bureaucrats will help drive the cost down.

I'd be willing to give up some of my Cadillac health care plan to help some folks who need help. But, hey, I'm a communist....period, end of story! It's X-mas and the spirit's of X-mas's past, present, and future are loose(?)d upon the land. Beware!

Sure are...and this one tastes of a plot to break our ability to pay for our own healthcare..break down the system until people beg for single payer...Socialism to a greater degree than we have experienced in our history as a nation.

They aren't helped by Obamacare. They are helped by the "charity" of their fellow citizens who were forced to surrender a portion of their possessions at gun point in order to "help" them. If anybody takes anything from the "government" that has been obtained through force for the purpose of redistributing it from one citizen to another, he is a moocher.

Question: are the exchanges the only source of insurance for those who don't have coverage through employers or other group plans? Is it not possible to seek a plan directly from an insurance provider anymore?

Even folks on this forum are drinking the KoolAid!
The aversion to entitlement wealth redistribution only goes so far as it harms the individual. It usually stops right at the point where the individual personally benefits from it. I'm guessing about 90% of INGO favors some wealth redistribution of one sort or another.

I'm not sure. Truthfully, since, other than the skyrocketing costs, I've still got our insurance through my employer, I really haven't shopped around.

That would be sad if true. However, just because folks have availed themselves of various social-engineering-tax-incentives doesn't mean they're in favor of wealth redistribution. Way too many may not realize that's what they're doing. Having said that, I will take advantage of every tax credit/incentive I can to reduce my tax burden and I would imagine a very large majority of wealth-redistribution-aschewing conservatives and libertarians do too.

I despise the system. It IS socialism. However, I'm not so naive to not believe it's going to help people.

...the problem is, these people should be "helping" themselves.

(And FYI, I don't think all socialism is bad)

Not saying Obamacare or socialism or anything else is good or bad. BUT not everyone is a moocher. Some are doing the best they can to help themselves.

WOW !!...I mostly agree with you!.... Communism/Marxism would not be bad either, (in fact is a great idea, on paper) were we able to eliminate human greed, and avarice. Those at the top of the heap always exploit those under.

The system is not exactly socialist, in that the service industry is still in private hands. You are being forced to purchase private products, and every aspect of the private industry is heavily government controlled. That makes it more accurately a fascist system.

I know that self insurance is illegal now (insuance group of one). Not sure if that involves single coverage or not (my suspicion is that it does).

So, if you can't find a group to insure with (that isn't a self insured group), then you are probably forced into an exchange or may choose to pay the penalty if it is less expensive. Then just pick up coverage later if you get sick.
