around here I always thought was maize for corn
Derivative of "corn" in Spanish, "maiz."

I think the word is often used by some to mean corn due to early, centuries old, confusion in Europe, but to most southerners, maize is a variety of sorghum.
It resembles corn growing, but all the fruit is on top in open tufts, like millet, wheat.

Most agricultural ethanol comes from the stalks, the grain goes for food and feed.

Horticulturally and botanically, maize is closer to millet that corn even though it looks like corn at first.

I might have sent some your way.

    been raining here a lot
The threat is all around us from southwest, but going faster northward for now, missing our bend in the river.

    I would welcome some rain.
In good faith, I put some things out that could use a nice all day soak, like the weather girls said was coming.
