I saw listings on GunBroker for Trailboss for astronomical prices. Are they not currently making Trailboss or when is the last time it was produced?

They have 5lb jugs on GunBroker for $1200. Crazy. I have a few of the small jugs. I think they are 9oz. I didn’t know I was sitting on a small gold mine.

5# jug in the classifieds for $500. Guess that'd be considered a good deal (compared to gunbroker) since it's no longer in production.

Being out of production I'd guess you have 2 options. 1) pay what someone's asking or, 2) find a different powder that's available and meets your needs.

It’s not a $1200 keg of powder. Some Ritchie Rich decided he wanted that overpriced bottle and pulled out his black Amex. He artificially inflated the price nationally and it screws the rest of us that could actually use it.

Like usual, Gunbroker sets an unreasonable benchmark that people gauge value on. National auction sites will do that, there’s always someone willing to spend crazy money when money has no meaning to them.

And as I’ve always said, I’ll pay reasonable prices for any Trailboss anyone wants to sell. I use it around the property, don’t resell it, and use it for niche projects, but I’m not spending $250 a pound. No way, no how. Having said that, if the one in the classifieds comes down a little, I’d entertain it but he says he’s not budging on price.

    .
I've used it some, like Michigan Slim said, I'm OK with Unique. I use 5744 in a number of older rifle cartridges like 50-95. Maybe I'm missing something in it usefulness.

It is good for subs and reduced loads in most rifles, I'm told. I liked it in my Sharps .45-70 and in .45 Colt, .44 mag and .38-55. I shoot with some that used it in .30-30 to good effect.

It’s the only powder to use to fill the case for 30-30 subs, 45-70 subs, 308 subs, etc. Old school powder for old school loads.

It’s my go-to and I’m too old to change. Wish they’d fix that Australian powder plant.
There is more too it than the plant. There was a thread on the SASS Wire about it and some of our shooters had first hand knowledge of it.

Originally, the fire at ADI in Australia cut the production of TB in @2018. IMR sold the licensing to Hodgdon in 2015-2016, but after the plant burnt, it's been off the market.

I'm not hopeful for the re-release.

I'm with you, I tried it a few years back and It just went from mild to wild to quick for me. Like Lil Gun in some cartridges. Like you guys, I'm a Unique and Bullseye guy. I know what they are gonna do.
