Mr. Sanford back at last Monday's Council meeting imploring them to take action....

Town of Zionsville » 11/4/2013 7:00PM ? Zionsville Town Council Meeting

Go to the audio link and Mr. Sanfords plea starts at 1:42

Sanford is using the progressive/liberal playbook, chapter and verse. He ends by threatening legal action and uses comments like "any reasonable person".

Stay strong brothers and sisters in the Zionsville area. Don't let these kooks out of the woodwork.

He's flat wrong on the zoning issue. In a case right out of Zionsville, the Indiana Court of Appeals has held that a shooting range is an appropriate and legal "accessory use" of residential property and is therefore not in violation of the zoning ordinance that defines the area as "residential." See Boone County Area Plan Commission v. Kennedy, 560 N.E.2d. 692 (Ind. Ct. App. 1990).

Any updates to this topic? I searched through Z-ville's website, but there are no minutes to go with the latest agenda posted on Feb. 24, 2014. What, if anything ever developed on this?

I noticed on Tuesday that there was mention on the news and also in the Indy Star that the Marion county city-county council had been considering trying to expand their present shooting ban for the old city out to the more rural outskirts of the county. They ended up voting against it on the basis that city lawyers had determined that due to the state preemption law of 2011 the present shooting ordinance may already be illegal. The concern was that passing an expansion of the ordinance might open the city to a lawsuit.

Marion County's gun rule stands ... for now

Some of the councilmen seemed to be extremely upset with the situation.

I'd have to wonder if Zionsville would also be limited by the same state preemption law.

Nothing had occurred in recent months but an article in the local Zionsville paper stated the issue would be discussed in the next Safety Board meeting which I think is being held the last Monday of the month at 9:00 a.m. At the Town hall.
