Yikes, right smack in the midst of harvest fishing time, my only fly rod shatters.
I'll be shopping the locals and online also, but I need a working rod ASAP. I'm normally not shy about throwing $ at gear, but this was unexpected. I'm in the Bloomington area.
Cabela's has some good sales going on right now. The Redington CT is a sweet casting stick for $99. My cousin just picked one up and I lawn casted it the other day. It was a great, slower action rod. They also have the Cabela's brand TLr on sale for $60. I have this as a backup 5 wt., and use it more than my Orvi$ rod when I'm not trout fishing. The TLr is a faster, albeit slightly, than the CT.
Tomorrow (Sunday) I am going to see my new Lab Pup. I will stop by my favorite rod maker and see if they have any "mistakes" on their discount rack. I have some killer deals from them. Monday after work I need to go into Park Falls, I will swing by St. Croix rod factory store and see if they have anything on their racks. They are also a customer of ours but I am not tight enough to ask straight up for the discounts........yet. What do you want to spend? If I see something close I will ask my boss to make a call.
Thank you for the advice and tips guys!
I purchased a way cheap Okuma, with good reviews, on Amazon. It'll be here by Wednesday (full moon.)
It should sneak me by until I figure what to do with the broken StCroix.
