The major problem with "Extreme Shock" is how bad it will look in court if you ever have to use it in self-defense. The prosecutor will label you as a "gun nut" who was "hell-bent on destruction" with your "super-ammo". Plus its very expensive.
Anyone remember the whole "Black Talon" ammo fiasco several years ago?
The packaging reminds me of something you would see on fireworks. And I have had enough of those go prematurely on me not to trust them, so I would probably not trust the ammo either. For what it is worth guns and ammo gave the company a glowing review in the march issue.
The problem I have with Extreme Shock is the same I have with other frangible type rounds. You have to give up something. If it is made to fragment, it will have crappy penetration. Apparently it frags in a jug of water. That doesn't give me much confidence that it will hit something vital if I had to use it.
That and their price is just downright insulting. I'll stick with the tried and true JHPs for about 1/5 the cost.
March 2008 Guns and Ammo has an article by Sweeney about this ammo.
the article says they(extreme shock) has taken deer with their 22 hornet ammo and big boar with 9mm and 40cal designs.
at closing, Sweeney states "Me, I'm hedging my bets because I'm not sure I "get it" but I'm sure theres something here. I guess I'll just have to go out and personally expire a few critters to figure this out for sure."
I'm not going out to buy any soon, but thats just me
