I have decided to buy a Kimber 1911, but I'm not sure which model will work for me the best. I can read reviews all day, but would like to put a couple of these in my hand. Who has the best selection of Kimber 1911's? I live in Bloomington, but I'm willing to travel. Which model do you recommend and why?

    Thanks!

Not sure who in your area has the best selection.

What are your intentions with the gun? Carry or just a range gun?

For carry, I like the Pro series (4" barrel) with the alloy frames. I carry a Pro Tactical, with fixed night sights.

For range, I like a steel frame Custom (5" barrel) with adjustable sights. I shoot a Team Match and an Eclipse Target mostly at the range.

Once you get past barrel length, frame material, and sights, most everything else is cosmetic. Unless you are a lefty and looking for an ambi safety.

If you ever end up in Lafayette, you are welcome to try some of mine out.

Thanks for the feedback. This will be used for a range gun. I'm leaning towards the custom stainless TLE II. I like that this has the front strap checkering.

    Elmore's has a good selection,

The Outdoorsman usually has a good selection too,

Or, the 1500 is coming up.

As for models, I have a Custom 2 that I've had night sights put on and I put a GI style guide rod on it. I really haven't found a Kimber model I didn't like.

If you are ever up around Bluffton check out 21st Century Firearms. Other than that I am no help that far south in the state. Good luck with your search though and let us know what you get!
