I built a commander sized 1911 a couple of years ago (see avatar) and have finally decided I won't make any (more) changes to it, so I am ready for the final finish. I don't really like the apperance of duracoat. I want something more like old school Bluing, but more lasting. Please let me know what you've had experience with.

Ceracoat is excellent! Better than Duracoat by far!IMO the colors look better,it IS more durable than any other coating on the market and will take more abuse than Duracoat! Its salt water resistant not that you would need that around here but if you ever travel somewhere then ya know. I was skeptical at first but my friend dropped his Sig in the parking lot and it slid a few feet on the pavement and he just picked it up and wiped it down with one of those gun cloths and it looked fine! If that had been my 1911 (up til a few weeks ago anyway) it would have messed it all up!
I had a buddy of mine who owns a coatings company in Louisville do it for me and I really like it and get all kinds of compliments on it at classes and the range. IMHO its well worth it as it helps to preserve your gun for the long run!

More durable, I would say Armory Kote but, you prolly won't like the look of that either. That being said, the next time I get something refinished, it's going to be in black nickel. But, that's prolly not exactly durable... Sorry, I really was going somewhere with all of this...

Moly resin. Search my old threads, one about refinishing and the other about the new grips. They include pictures of his finishes, which are available in many colors, and are easy to apply and touch up, and VERY durable (way more durable than duracoat).
