yea it's not close to a rare serial even but the history is cool to study

but it has the very narrow front sight blade I thought was pre 1924
I am still not 100% clear on what the flaming bomb stands for though
could have been changed.....arsanl rebuild.. ...the cut outs from the above the spring hood shape was from 1941 till end of production in 1945....early ones from 1911 to 1918 had more rounded cut outs....1918 to 1941 had a more oval cut outs
It's the symbol for the US Army Ordinance corps. Like Engineers use the castle, Ordinance uses a flaming bomb.

I am not doubting you and at the risk of sounding stupid I am not sure what you mean by spring hood.
There is a guy that JUST posted over on 1911Forum his picture of M1911 serial number 58. Yes, 58. It looks pretty awesome in blue.
where the recoil spring and plug go....a lot of the old slides didn't make it because the spring hood would break off or the slide stop notch would waller out because they where not heat treated there.....
i would repark it....
here is a 1918 Remington UMC .....it gets fired on the 4th of July.....hand loaded 230gr ball running 725fps......you get that from the classifieds?
