IN LTCH cost 150 after all was said and done
UTAH CCW 150 for the class and 65 for the license
i paid 600 for my smith and wesson m&p 9 pro series
shot 3000 rounds thru it so far... 900
spent 200 on a comptec mtac iwb and a dual mag carrier and a minotaur belt
spent 100 on 5 extra mags so i have 8 now
spent 1600 on 4 classes with henk iverson

the most important money you will spend will be on the training. training with the best will improve your skills in a hurry. everything you will learn is a perishable skill. you must continually be willing to practice. ask yourself this question. can i shoot another human being? if you are not willing too dont even consider spending the money. you would do yourself a favor buying gold instead...

    Hey All,

As a prospective LTCH holder, I was wondering, for those that don't mind sharing, how much is cost you to start carrying monetarily speaking?

I'm talking, cost of the gun(s), ammo, the LTCH itself, any training, club memberships, etc.

I'm not looking for an expense report, I'm just curious to find out what I'm looking at getting myself into. If you want to provide detail, it will be much appreciated, but I understand many people don't feel comfortable discussing their funds with their family, much less a complete stranger.

    Thanks in advance.
    im a newb aswell

for the gun i actually been carrying
    gun - s&w638 ~$350
    ammo $60 /$20 range/protection
    ltch $130
spent 3 days at range with this gun ~$50 including target
    pocket holster $13
    looking for a class nearby

    ~$600

Hey PlinKing2392. I have been carrying for quite a few years now and if you are looking for any help with the subject, please feel free to let me know. I have access to many different handguns and am more than willing to hit the range with you to help you out. I am located in Daleville which is just north of you on SR69 and SR67. As far as expenses go. Go with something that is comfortable to you. People carry different guns differently, but dont skimp on your setup. Buying something inexpensive and of lower quality is not bad to start but try to get atleast a quality gun and quality carry ammo to start.

All the break downs are cool. But if you just put aside a grand that should be enough to get started with a decent handgun, holster, range, ammo etc.

Alright, I'm up to about $500 already and I don't even have a carry gun. I'm including my 22 plinker and the ammo I have spent learning technique. I am still looking for something good to carry. I have been trying to convince myself that a 1911 is a good choice for a first gun (They are so much fun to shoot), but I'm not sure I'm experienced enough to carry that yet. I'm still thinking about the PF9, but I really want a 40. Anyone have any suggestions as to any cheap (price, not quality) 40's that aren't glocks? No offense to Glock fans, but I just don't like they way they feel.

So, here is where I'm at. I need a carry gun. I want a 40 (or a 45), but I want to keep it compact enough to CC (If that's possible), so a 9 is not out of the question. A revolver is still an option also, but it would have to be a 357. I have a budget of under $500 (the wife still says its closer to $0). Any suggestions?

If you want a 357 revolver, I would suggest the Ruger SP101. It is a small frame revolver (5 shot), and conceals well. If you want something bigger, the Ruger GP100.

    What everybody here is forgetting to mention, is additional licenses;
Training class at Gander Mountain will run you $99.00. This will get you trained to be able to apply for the Florida & Utah licenses, which are $117 & $65.

This will allow you to carry in I think 32 of the 57 states.

Oh, I planned on the training. Like you said, it allows for other licenses, and I wouldn't carry without going through at least one class. I would hate to think that people are walking around toting a deadly weapon without proper training! (consider the last sentence to be purple, I can't change the font color on my phone.)

So far, in a couple months, it cost me:
$30 for the LTCH (which I haven't received yet)
    $280 for a used 9mm
$10 for a used nylon holster.
$24 for a box of FMJ 9mm to practice.
$8 per half hour at the range.
$75 for three extra magazines for my 9mm.
$700 for a Colt m1911 that my buddy sold me because it was useless to him always covered with my drool....
$25 for a Galco holster for my 1911.
$$$$ for lots of .45 acp for my 1911.
$150 and my first 9mm for a newer, nicer also used 9mm.
$$$$ lots more 9mm ammo for my new to me 9mm
    $225 for a used Bersa .380
$20 for a holster for my Bersa
$200 for a Ruger Mk II 22/45 to improve my shooting.
Not much $$$ for .22lr ammo.
Oh, about $20 for a cleaning kit.
$12 for Pearce grips for my 1911.
$135 for new sights installed on my 1911.
    $50 for a nice shooter's bag.
$60 for assorted gun cases, etc.
$50 for more 1911 mags at the gun show.
    $50 for more .380 mags.
    $7 for a can of Ballistol/
$$$ for various bore brushes and patches.
    ...
    whew!
...and this is just under two months...
    and I am poor.
    I have the fever...

great insight. If I were to do it all over again from scratch, and purchase my first gun. I would buy a kel-tec p-11 9mm. Light weight, dependable, easy to conseal and incredibly inexpensive. The cost for me in total to start up was about 650. Knowing what I know now, i could have almost cut that cost in half by buying a cheaper gun.
