I find Venezuela to be a PITA, not really a threat. They don't have anything we can't get anywhere else. They have been trying to upgrade their military, but it is nothing but left over crap from the USSR (which we already know how to counter) and even then their military is tiny. The only thing that would keep us from stomping a mud hole in their ass if they tried anything would be our politicians *cough*Vietnam*cough, cough*. Their only strength is their relationship with Russia and then Russia is the problem, not Venezuela. Chavez is just another Castro.

Seems we (US) need to think about cutting them off at the knees economically. They say that 95% of their oil exports are to the US? What does this equate to as how much of our imported oil actually comes from them?

Sounds like our Navy and AirForce are going to be getting a lot of practice in here in the near future.

Citgo, certainly, but I don't know that we can differentiate Venezuelan oil exclusively.

You would be correct, It gets bid on by the refineries just like all other oil. Some companies use their own oil exclusively but not all.

While true, keep in mind that boycotting CITGO just because of where the oil is imported from also affects tens of thousands of American workers. Also keep in mind that many other companies use Venezuelan oil, as the country is the 4th largest importer of oil into the US.

And although Citgo may be owned by Petróleos de Venezuela, it is a formerly American company which is still headquartered in the U.S. (in Houston, Texas), employs 4,000 people, and supplies 14,000 independent retailers with gasoline and other petroleum products — Americans with no substantive connection to Venezuela who would be economically harmed by such an action.
