    Shopping mall in Karmiel Israel.

Palestinian armed with knife from West Bank ambushes two IDF armed with rifles while they walk in a shopping mall. One soldier died from his wounds and the Palestinian was shot to death while fleeing.

I believe if the Palestinian had kept pressing his attack instead of fleeing he had a good chance of killing both of them and escaping unharmed.

I put this in the this forum instead of the political one because it is such a clear video of how a knife attack goes. For several years I trained with a self-defense group that emphasized knife defense. Once someone is hands-on distance it is really really hard to defend against the knife.

Do go to X and play the video.

ETA: To their credit the soldiers fight thru their wounds to get their weapons up and return fire, but only after the attacker breaks off.

Knife wounds are a lot less survivable that bullet wounds, until you start getting into bigger calibers and certain projectiles.

One on one a sudden knife attack is verrrry difficult to defend against. This dirtbag messed up by attacking 2 foes at once. It was when he transitioned to the second target that the first engaged with his weapon. That's when the attacker lost all initiative, and was forced to flee.

Still goes to show that in almost any case, if the assailant is willing to die in the attack, he is almost guaranteed of success. However, our guy here changes his mind mid attack and half failed, killing only one of his targets, while still paying the price. Had he drove home the attack, he most likely would have still paid the price, but he also would have most likely took out both targets with him while doing so.

Go to hell. Go directly to hell. Do not go pass paradise, do not collect 72 virgins.

While the 2 IDF guys here (well, one of them anyway) learned a painful lesson in awareness, at least the IDF looks like they're trying... by not having any soldiers patrolling alone. You know this incident will generate a "safety brief".

I've heard in the past that Kevlar based armor isn't much good against sharp knives. Has that changed any over the years?

Stuff like this was used a long time ago, maybe it's been upgraded.

Maybe that safety briefing will address walking around with a drink in one’s hand? Both IDF were carrying drinks, and although this may not have mattered, these drinks momentarily hindered their ability to fight back or at least served as a distraction.

If nothing else, these two unfortunate IDF soldiers looked vulnerable casually walking along enjoying their drinks. Certainly not blaming them for the brutal attack that killed one but when in such a hostile environment one has to tip the scales in their favor any way they can.

Ultimately, the only way these two might have had a fighting chance is if one of them had scanned the area behind them at the right time. Maybe when walking in pairs each should alternate scanning all around? Four eyeballs there and all were focused ahead at the same time.

John Lovell of the awesome WARRIOR POET SOCIETY told us in Rifle 2: "We are all easy to kill."

And it's 100% true. Make yourself a target and a dude with a knife or a gun with surprise wants you dead .... you're toast.

John aggressively pointed a blue plastic pistol at us in class AFTER telling us "we all know this is a practice gun, right?" It was interesting to feel fear and suddenly feel so vulnerable from a harmless object.

He did something else later to me in particular in class that made me realize how someone with bad intent could murder you without raising a sweat, too. Forget the details, but it sunk the lesson in, for sure.

Gave us lots to think about, to say the least.

We all need our heads on a swivel. Eli Dickens didn't go to the Greenwood food court expecting to have to kill a guy... but there he was.

Knives are almost worse than a gun because maybe no one sees you get stabbed in a public place. Gunshot wakes people up fast. Stab wounds could be like "is that guy having a seizure?" until you get close.

Good points, with a knife, ppl question what's happening and its almost surreal the amount of ppl that just watch .. whereas a gun, which is also shocking, can snap ppl into that fight or flight faster

Dang, that is a serious worst case scenario. Even a head on a swivel, might not see/recognize the knife in someones hands.. That is just horrible to watch, and goes to the attitude of those who wish to destroy Israel, and scumbags in general.
