I've been a busy dude lately. This hobby has exploded this past 10 days. Lots of time spent grinding and shaping blocks of materials. Small fragments of the puzzle are falling into place, so I am keeping with the pace of it..
I started the weekend of going back to a early knife, No. 5.. This was the last blade to be made with files and sanding blocks only, or before the power tools. It sat till I could really mull the change over and decide it was time to move on to what others were saying I was ready for..
New scale material.. I am down to 1-2 set of usable scales of the natural Walnut I scavenged form a local tree. Having spent time in Hawaii and owning several pieces of Koa furniture, BAM... From left to right.. Fiddleback Curly Hilo Koa, two sets of Koa, and a Walnut set...
Haven't decided on the fancier pieces of Koa or Walnut yet, but the smaller scales... I have a slight idea..
I never thought I'd have two of the same knife. Subtlety different, but the idea and work put into them was the same..
Even after delving in and trying some new things. I spent a few hours going back to one of my original designs to apply what I've learned. Need to shape the scales yet before the cutting edge and sheath, but I feel some progress has been acheived.. Lots more to learn and ponder from the lessons encountered thus far..
I appreciate you all following me along here on INGO as I have started this. I will continue to post here, unless you guys just tell me to stop. I've also got a facebook page up, as I get lot of feedback there as well. I post pics up there of the process and some more insight as to what I am learning and doing.
