I saw an interview with the chief of police. His biggest complaint seemed to be that there was a party without proper permits.

It's a good thing the shooter didn't rent a box truck. The death toll could have been staggering.

"We have a child that was killed at an event that didn’t have proper planning, with people with guns involved," [Mayor Muriel] Bowser said. "Even with police managing crowds on-site, someone used a gun and now a child is dead."

"We need some accountability here," she added.
I'll believe that when I see it.

My guess is she'll continue to call for even more gun control on the law abiding while doing everything she can to make sure those committing the crimes can't be held accountable. Cause systemic racism, or something.
