Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Gander Mountain is giving a class to obtain your Utah Concealed Firearm Permit, Saturday Dec. 11th.

It is $100. It will give you a permit to conceal carry in 32 states. If you are a veteran, or have some other type of professional firearms training, you can also get a Florida Permit, which will give you the ability to carry in 3 more states, for a total of 75. That's 70% of the entire country.

I've signed up. Anyone else here going?

I was in today and the service desk person said they are going to have one every month. We'll see if she knows what she was talking about.
The class is $100 + $65 for the permit fees.

Actually, the costs are as follows; $100 up front cash only for the class. $20 if you want them to fingerprint you & take photo for 2x2 picture (both are required for Utah & Florida). If you want the Florida permit, it is another $20 for the paperwork packet that you will later send to Florida.

These fees are strictly for the training & paperwork, and go to the FSG. Afterwards, if you actually want these permits, you will have to send $65.25 to Utah, and $117 to Florida. $42 of that $117 goes to the FBI to run your prints.

The $65 for Utah permit is good for 5 years, then you have to pay an additional $10 every 5 years. I'm not sure how long the Florida permit is good for.

I have the Utah and the renewal fee was much less then Florida but can't remember how much. The class cost me $265 so a good deal now, I have had my Utah permit for a few years. Just remember you still need a Indiana permit if you live here.

Now that I've spent the $100 for the class, + $20 for the "Florida Packet", I now know it was almost a complete waste of $68.25. :xmad:

    Here's why:

My indiana permit allows me to carry in 26 states. If I add Utah, it allows me to carry in 33 states, but will cost me $185.25 (120 to the trainers, 65.25 to Utah).

If I had not gone to this class, I could have gotten all of Floridas applications from their website, and just sent Florida $117. With Florida & Indiana permits, I will have the right to CC in 34 states, and I think they are a better selection of states.

My suggestion, forget Utah, and just get the Florida permit.

Most counties have a good 4-H shooting sports program for kids.

If have been in the millitary, or taken an NRA basic pistol course, you can get a Florida permit, which covers the same amount of states, without the class.

Otherwise, check the website of the group giving the class (linked earlier in one of my original posts in this thread)

The Florida permit was easy to get. There is a packet which they will ship to you free of charge. Permit is a nice, laminated card that looks similar to a drivers license. Turn around was very quick. Maybe three weeks total?
