Texas AG was on FNC this morning touting their new church gun laws as successful. I also caught a YouTube clip (suggested by YouTube) of a national ABC newscast showing the actions of the good guys with guns stopping the bad guy. Hopefully this spreads.

It'd be nice if some talking head would tie in the NY machete terrorist attack and suggest that that could have ended differerently if those folks could have properly defended themselves.

Good guys with guns stopped the carnage cold in less the minute and the body count was low because of that. In GFZ this would have likely been a lot worse. The good guys managed to not shoot each other or anyone else. One well aimed shot was the difference. There is video evidence here in this case that the talking points of the gun grabbers are not valid.

They cant help but pick it up.

Will they keep talking about it is the question. If it were just a bunch killed, absolutely. Because they would be able to show that guns are evil and must be banned. In this case they are less likely because it not only doesnt fit their narrative, it shoots that narrative in the face.

And of course my token liberal anti gun friend couldnt help but chime in on Facebook:
"That is what, one out of twenty? Thirty? Not a good percentage."

I'm beginning to think he just trolls anymore. He's a pretty bright guy otherwise.

And they will dismiss it for that reason. "He wasnt REALLY a civilian. He was a professional. This proves we don't need civilians carrying guns because they'll just get hurt. This is a prime example. The first two shot were civilians trying to stop him, and they failed to stop the shooter. It took a professional to get the job done. See, this proves that only LEOs should be armed because it is useless for non LEO to carry because they are ineffectual."

I found another story that says he was a reserve deputy for six years 1980-1986 and otherwise owned a gun store and range and was a businessman/contracts specialist (and he used a Sig P229 in .357 sig).

If you want to see that bias, then you're going to see that bias.

Regardless of the politics, there's a lot for us to learn here - if nothing else, it reinforces the need to practice dry fire. If the first one shot was faster on the draw, and got off the X, he and the usher could be alive.

The second guy shot (standing the corner confronting the shooter) looks to have a communion / offering tray - why didn't he throw it at the shooter? If nothing else, it knocks him out of his intended motion of firing. Plus, his body language seems very timid to me - I would think that in your mind after seeing this guy you'd know that you need a very alert, and in-charge posture - straight up, hands at chest level, etc.

Third, there was a lot of old people that got woken up with the first shot.

Fourth, there's a man close to this, that hid immediately, but finally stood up and drew his handgun... once the suspect was down.

since he apparently put it on his own Facebook page, there’s information about the parishioner who put down the attacker. Former Reserve deputy, LTC instructor, firearms trainer who formerly owned a training academy, Trump supporter, running for commissioner in his home county. 71 years old.

Somehow I think he's going to win that election...

That is the one I saw. That is why I said who knows
Whatever his past, it is clear he has practiced/trained a lot.

On his FB page for his run for County Commissioner he posts:

Jack Wilson County Commissioner for Precinct 3 Campaign I have taken this oath multiple times beginning in 1965 when I joined the Army National Guard, as a reserve deputy for Hood County Sheriff’s Dept, and multiple times with Dept of Defense Security Clearances beginning in 1965 thru 1995. I swore to the oath then and still live by the oath today.

A statement released by Jack Wilson...

“I just want to thank all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today. The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exist and I had to take out an active shooter in church.

I’m thankful to GOD that I have been blessed with the ability and desire to serve him in the role of head of security at the church. I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed. Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding.”

That is where I was getting my info. Of course I don't trust anything on the net, but it doesn't say anything about the FBI there. 6 years in the 80s as a reserve deputy could mean little to nothing.

It doesn't say anything about the FBI on his personal FB nor his County Commission site which i'm sure if you had that credential you'd want it out there. I'm not sure how the media started running with it but i've seen it as 'ex-FBI' to 'FBI hero'. It's almost like they don't want this to involve just a regular joe?

So... we can say his oath is still valid? :dunno:
