Okay INGO'ers here's the situation.
My wife and I have talked about getting an outdoor dog for about 6 months now. This dog would be used to protect our children, chickens, future hogs and keep other riff-raff (preditors, stray dogs, and people) off of our property. Originally we were looking at a great pyrenees however in order to get one that was raised on a farm and would know how to protect our property and farm animals, it would cost us around $800.00 just for the pup. Oh and they tend not to be good pets for the kids and protectors of the other farm animals...
Recently, a neighbor (1/4 mile down the road) stopped by and brought a few pups that she was willing to give away if we were interested. These are American Bulldogs (a mix of a bulldog and mastiff)
This is the mom and dad of the puppies
After doing due research I've found that these dogs are in-fact working farm dogs and very protective of both their owners as well as the livestock, oh and the best part, the puppy would be free.
It seems as though this puppy would be a good match for us, as it can stay outdoors (except when it's below 30 - until it's an adult), is a great protector of it's owners (i.e. great guard dog for the kiddos and wife), a great protector of livestock/farm animals that they grow up around, etc.
Here's a picture of the puppy (it's the girl on the left - Dark Brindle with white on nose)
So, what do you say?
Yea or Na
