I don't think there's any question that the TSA has hired folks that have turned out to be thieves, pedophiles and child pornographers. Such incidents have been all over the news over the last year or so. If the assertion is that they are doing this intentionally (I don't get that from the article), that would be criminal.

My reading of the article (with the exception of the anecdotal phone call) is that they are seen so woefully inept that they shouldn't be entrusted with filling the positions.

Personally, I believe them to be so woefully inept in most facets as to be disallowed existence (the agency, not the individuals).

I can't stand the TSA or any of the sub-human maggots who work for them, but I seriously can't see them issuing a policy directive to deliberately hire pedophiles. Would the TSA hire pedophiles through gross incompetence? Yes. Would pedophiles be attracted to work for the TSA? Yes.

If the TSA can't screen out such people as employees, can we really believe the agency is competent to screen terrorists from boarding passenger flights?

This information should be readily available to the agency during job screening, it's not like the TSA can't obtain fingerprints and FBI criminal checks on job applicants.

The link I posted was someone who has a history, a history so well documented that he was recognized by TV reporters who had done a story on his case. What about those? Federal background checks for other positions of trust involve in-depth investigations with agents questioning references and interviews with past employers. I guess this job doesn't involve enough responsibility.

Bad apples are EVERYWHERE. In EVERY kind of job. They come from EVERY socio-economic background. They come in ALL skin colors. They come in ALL sizes, shapes, and genders, too.

TSA may be different in how it's mandated / legislated and what not; but is the same outraged expressed at an institution that hires a pediatrician that turns out to be a pedophile? That person is also "mandated" to "manhandle" children.

This is a sucky world, people. And no matter how much we'd like to, we generally can't insulate ourselves 100% from it's suckiness.
