Titanic brushed against the iceberg that sealed her fate 100 years ago this evening. Can you imagine? The excitement of being on such a voyage and how it turned to terror.

I've read several of the diary publications of those who survived, along with media accounts from the time of the event. As you might guess, what is commonly regarded as fact is, almost without exception, Hollywood sensationalism. The United States Senate report from the hearings held in April of 1912 is also a great read.

100 years ago. What an amazing ride it's been for humanity since then. May all who died that night rest in eternal peace.

The only thing left of the bodies on the sea floor are pairs of shoes. Sea life ate the people and then the bones decalcified into the sea, so there's just a bunch of shoes down there. Kind of creepy!

11:40 PM (presume local time at accident site...don't know for sure, though), 14 Apr 1912.

Another date which will live in infamy.

(also the date of Lincoln's assassination, the date the Donner Party left Springfield, IL, my Aunt Pammy's 66th birthday, and the 5th anniversary of Don Ho's death)
