The ones i have picked ,seem to be ht and miss -- wonder what causes that ?

are they coming from the same plant? Did they ripping at the same time? If not then soil moisture during ripening time could make a difference as can plant variety.

We don't. There is a 60' fence that runs the length of out driveway. We have 4 original and 2 or 3 volunteer plants along 20' or so.

The plants are 5 years old. Last year was the first time we had much of a harvest.

one BIG bush , i need to spread it out . The people that had the house befor ,put pig fence around it , i need to take that down and get the vines out of it and spread the plant out

by vines i mean that darn ivy that grows every ware

Sam, does that mean your plants are wild? Blackberries only produce on second year growth so the age of the plants shouldn't matter. The put out new canes every year.

Yeah, I am having issues with that this year too.

Not wild, I planted 4 bushes there 5 years ago. Now we have 7 or 8 in the same run. They have spread.

Spreading is a good thing when it comes to blackberries, not so much when your talking about ole ladies butts.

Our berries are tame, no thorns, hubby didn't want tame ones cause he thought they weren't as tasty so we had two patches. These are so good that I finally mowed down the wild ones cause they were so thorny I couldn't keep the weeds out of them.

Gonna go pick the MIL's blackberries....actually they are ours but they are near her house so she claims them
