    Quick one this morning.

There's a group called "Bully Hunters" that makes the unsubstantiated claim that over 20 million women have been driven from gaming by “toxic masculinity.”

So they did a stream event, in an effort to seek out "bullies" in online games, live. Even got a signal boost from Steel Series, a creator of computer gaming gear.

Bad idea. Aside from the spokeswoman of the "Bully Hunters" stream being caught on video calling people "fa****s" online... (she later excuses this by saying "I'm bisexual!"... which I think is similar to another word and saying "I'm black, it's okay!")

Turns out the Bully Hunters stream was faking all their matches. They used one Steam account, and just changed the name over and over.

The very first person "being bullied" was 'therosethorn', and they called in "BULLY HUNTER_77"

Just a propaganda campaign. If gamers were actually as toxic as they claim, they wouldn't have to fake it.

    Here's a video on it (NSFW);

"Bully Hunters" has lost all it's gaming advertisement. Steel Series has issued a response.

    https://www.facebook.com/notes/steelseries/our-statement-on-bullyhunters/10156227670083808/

BullyHunters pitched us with a simple idea - let’s work together to fight online harassment. And because we believe that’s a noble cause, we supported it.
It’s now clear that we didn’t do a good job in understanding exactly what we were supporting. And we’re sorry for that.
The way BullyHunters represented the gaming community was wrong and disingenuous. Most gamers don’t experience harassment, and more importantly, 99%+ of gamers don’t do the harassing. We’re well aware of the many faults with BullyHunters. We hear you guys, and we agree.
To clear a few things up: BullyHunters was not a viral campaign stage-managed by us. We did not hire a marketing agency to create it. We didn’t have anything to do with its execution, content or messaging. And more importantly, we would never take advantage of an issue like bullying to sell hardware. They asked us to supply some headsets, support the call for positive change, and we did.
Although we still believe in a world where harassment isn’t tolerated, it’s clear to us that BullyHunters is hurting, not helping, that cause. On Friday, we ended our support and partnership with the organization.
We apologize to those who support our brand and expect more due diligence in vetting out campaigns and partnerships we associate ourselves with.

    Good for them.

Also, an e-sports host and contributing editor for Turner Sports had this to say about the entire situation:

    Richard Lewis said:
Key takeaways from my investigation so far: SteelSeries state that they were simply approached by a marketing campaign (FCB Chicago) and agreed to be part of an event. They believe that their name was all over the website source code as they were one of the first to agree.

SteelSeries consider the campaign to have been so damaging to their brand they are currently in discussions about what action they take next as they believe the marketers "misrepresented" the level of SteelSeries involvement.

SteelSeries made it clear to me that as far as they are concerned FCB Chicago were the architects of the whole campaign from its inception. They recorded the promotional materials and created the API plug-in. SteelSeries were in essence "sponsors" of the project.

I am currently waiting for comment from FCB Chicago but all indications so far point the finger at them, including their own press release. archive.is/ZnVnM

Bizarrely, FCB seem to have misrepresented a lot of people's involvement. People I interviewed claimed they were told Valve "approved" of this campaign, which of course is absurd. Anyone can utilise the API they have made available. This does not mean Valve approved of anything.

If you look at the list of their clients they have done nothing directly in gaming. The "harassment" narrative brings a lot of attention from the mainstream. They specifically called this a "passion project." They wanted it to be a calling card for more work I assume.

To offer some editorializing, I've known SteelSeries reps for a long time. They definitely should have looked into this campaign a lot more before putting their name on it but everything appears to point to them being deceived to some degree.

SteelSeries do not do marketing in this fashion. They've been a loyal supporter to the esports space for as long as I can remember. As the biggest name attached to the project it makes sense FCB would use them to convince more partners to sign up to the initiative.

I was able to obtain what I was told was the "marketing deck" that came out of FCB for this campaign. SteelSeries stated that they had never seen it before and did not like that their logo was plastered on every page. This means it's either fake or SteelSeries were out the loop.

Also, the Bully Hunters website appears to be down now. What a trainwreck.

Interesting, the way some people use the presidents stated policy intentions.

From the title of the link I deduce that some imbecile torched himself in public, but the link only opened a page full of links to other stories.
I saw other articles about that. Yes, he left a note saying that was why he burned himself to death.

I wonder if there isn't more to the story. That is a particularly bad way to go out.

Typed suicide letter left near by.

He sent an email to many news outlets announcing his intention. And that really is the story.

I’d rather we didn’t win the culture war this way, but if more SJW’s shared his commitment the culture war would be over.

They'd probably want to ban fossil fuels because of their use as a suicide method. If they can't get it banned because of its perceived effect on the environment, go down the gun ban model.

Hmm...Was he alive when he sent the emails?

This is a conspiracy theorist dream.
