I guess the author of the opinion piece in the OP did not read the article this weekend where the Cosner's staff were reported as explaining the "Obama factor" as being that people were worried about his anti-gun beliefs.

It really doesn't matter what party or color the president is...could be a green woman from the XYZ party. The issue is that the current president has actively voiced his opinion that he would like to see more restrictions on guns. That is in the only issue here and THAT is the "Obama factor."

I suspect that at least a few folks might be citing the "Obama factor" just to get permission to buy some new hardware! Just saying...

This shows a troubling distrust — paranoia? — about the new administration. Our research doesn’t say whether it’s just political or political and racial, but we have our suspicions.

Is the Herald-Times attacking law-abiding gun owners out of mindless reflexive prejudice? Or are they consciously engaging in deliberate anti gun-owner propaganda? Do they really believe that anyone who disagrees with the President is a racist? Or is this just their way of discrediting any opposition to their chosen President and the socialist agenda they share?

I can't read minds to know the intentions behind the Herald Times' sleazy, propagandistic "journalism," but I have my suspicions.

DING DING DING DING!! Welcome to Lefties 101... Same thing the media did to Joe the Plumber... "We're going to completely disregard the fact that Obama said 'spread the wealth' and concentrate on trashing this guy's reputation, so that nobody cares what BHO said to him"

I like the highlighted statement above. A newspaper that is locally known for being anti-gun recognizes that counties with a higher percentage of licensed gun owners actually have a lower crime rate. Doesn't that say something?

This is one of the logical skewers the left impales itself upon.

Leftist Premise One: More guns = more crime.
Leftist Premise Two: You don't need to carry a gun, as you are unlikely to be the victim of a violent crime.

So if high gun ownership causes more crime, why do the areas with the highest legal ownership have the least crime?
If an area has high crime, isn't that precisely where the citizens need to carry a gun for their protection?

Like all leftist arguments, you have to understand the internal, unstated logic, which is based on the religion of socialism (which like all religions, requires faith to understand) which holds that all data which does not support socialism's religious canon (one part of which is that Citizens Shall be Unarmed) can be dismissed as an anomoly at best, but most likely it is a construct of the "ruling class" to continue to hold power and repress the powerless. The powerless include: college professors, journalists, hollywood actors, democrat politicians, plaintiffs attorneys, teachers, government workers, and of course the poor folks and minorities the first group must "care for" 'cause they're too stupid to do it themselves.

So yes, because we think that it's our sacred responsibility to protect ourselves and our families, and the police are just one of the tools we use ('cause we hire and pay for them) to do that, guns being the first and most immediate line of defense - we are paranoid.

And yes, because we think that all people should have equal protection under the law ("equal" actually meaning equal, and not that one group has priority) and that all people have primary responsibility for their own lives, and that minorities are as capable of acheiving their dreams as everyone else - we are racist.

Also, because "us" contains the percentage of the population that pays over 90% of all taxes collected, "we" are also exploiting our fellow citizens and "not doing our fair share."

It's actually pretty easy to understand. It just takes a little technique called doublethink.

    War is Peace.
    Freedom is Slavery.
    Ignorance is Strength.

    I love Big Brother.

    One more thing:

Yes, I admit it. I went on a gun-buying spree because Obama is black. (Actually he's got kind of a light brown, creamy cafe au lait skin thing going, but I digress.)

I know that's why I did it, 'cause I know I'm a racist, 'cause I believe all citizens should be equal under the law.

Of course it couldn't possibly be because the new President had stated that no citizen should be allowed to own a gun, and because he appointed anti-gun people to every post that has anything to do with guns.

Nope, it was because he's light brown.

It's deliberate, everything the H-T does is calculated to advance a leftist agenda, they engaged in it during the whole 15 lost years I lived in B'ton.

    <- tragic boating accident
liberals will twist and contort everything to fit within their agenda, regardless of truth and reality. Liberals are not the problem though, it is the mindless idiots who believe the rhetoric of the left because they do not have a brain to think for themselves.

wth is are "personal protection permits". idiots cant even get that right.

I think he's right about that - aren't there two types of permits in IN? One for personal protection, which allows you to carry all the time, and another that allows you to carry to the range?
