I am looking for a gun safe to lock up a single handgun in my vehicle (mid size truck) for when I have to leave my carry gun behind. I'm not real interested in drilling any holes in my vehicle and prefer the steel cable type.

Anyone have any experience with these? I would like to keep the price around $100. Is this a realistice price for a truly secure safe?

I definitely want the dorr and lock to be resistant to a prybar and would hope the cable was heavy enough not to be cut by wire cutters or pliers.

    Suiggestions?

    Thanks

Depends on how secure you want it. Some make console boxes, others use a cable. IMHO they just slow down the average thief. I have one like the following:
Amazon.com: Secure - It® Handgun Storage Safe with Combo Lock: Sports & Outdoors

I choose not to use a key version so its not on the ring with my car key. A BIO one would be nice, heard mixed reviews on reliability.Search this forum, this one has been tossed around a good bit.

^^This. There are similar boxes made by Center Of Mass Central as well. I also like the cable locks for laptops (that fasten into the little slot on them) Those fasten into the slot on the Secure-It boxes and keep the plastic covering the cable from being abraded away. Just FYI.

Edit: The boxes are flat black and are tough to see even if you know to look for them.

    Blessings,

I use the same brand box he listed above and it works well and is extremely reasonably priced. I use the smaller size (only sold with key lock) in my car because there is a convienent concealment spot in my vehicle that the smaller on fits in that the larger one won't. The larger one with a combo goes under the bed (unlocked at night)
