From what I can read in our state laws you still have to have an FFL do the
transfer when an IN resident sells a long gun to a MI resident, correct?

Long-gun transfers can be done at an FFL in either the buyer's or seller's state provided the states share a border.

Handguns must go through an FFL in the buyer's state regardless if the states share a border.

Thanks guys, I was double checking.
I just had an incident at a local shop where the owner
got disgusted with me for asking him to do the transfer for us
and he insisted that it wasn't necessary. (Charged me $10 more than usual)
It will most likely be the last time I go in there.
