It's sad that too many states have ceded their power to the federal government. Blame this on the 10th Amendment to theUS Constitution that clearly says:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

And what does the Supremacy Clause clearly say?

Just symbolic, I wish legislatures would do more than pass feckless symbols, but these measures are popular in certain quarters as snake oil.

So much that could be done and this is all they can muster?

Probably won't do any good but insofar as these sorts of things attempt to throw the bridle of unconstitutional laws, I'm OK with it. Perhaps, if enough states all shrug together, the right and proper changes will finally be made.

If enough States start doing this, the feds will try to hold up highway funds, or some such. What they need to do is tie any legislation to a gay marriage bill that also legalizes recreational marijuana use, and calls for body cams for all police officers in the State. Then cast the opposition as benighted neanderthals.

Maybe symbolism is exactly what they're going for at this point.

Sure, politicians love symbolism because it accomplishes nothing and the barking seals in their districts love it.

If South Carolina wants to move the ball forward instead of engage in mindless symbolism, they should use the Constitution rather than pretend it does not exist:

    1. Tax credits to those that attend gun training classes, make tuition, ammunition, travel expenses to class, all an above the line deduction.

    2. Mandate firearms ownership. All South Carolina residents, who are not prohibited persons must possess an AR-15 and Beretta 92. Those who do not pay a tax.

    3. The sales tax is reduced to 1% for all those carrying a firearm at the time of the taxed transaction.

    4. Before a driver's license is issued, a firearms safety and proficiency test must be passed.

    5. Before graduation from high school, all students in South Carolina must pass a firearms safety and knowledge exam. Classes in elementary, junior and senior high school to be mandated.

    6. All Form 4s shall be signed if individual not prohibited person.

    7. If they want symbolism, how about a resolution to urge Congress to deregulate suppressors and institute NFA reform? Urge universal recognition of all states for all carry licenses.

    8. Heck, while we are at it, why doesn't SC recognize all other states and foreign countries just like Indiana does?

There is much to do and much that the states can do, e.g. advance the culture by making guns normal. SC can help create a pro-gun culture in their state. Pointless endeavors such as this distract from real work and placate those easily distracted by such snake oil.

This is reasonable and imminently doable.

Yes, but that is affecting real change. The wookies want the mouth music over real action. It's like a religious test for them. I am MORE PURE than thou!

Instead of focusing on something that will last 10 seconds in federal court, how about we do something worthwhile and will have a real impact?

Kirk, nice list. But do we really want to mandate firearm ownership? I like the idea of incentives, especially for carry. But I don't want anyone telling me I have to buy something. Like health insurance, for insurance. . .

If we did that would we be better off mandating military or guard service and people must keep the arms they're issued?

Come on people, you're smarter than this. Why are allowing yourselves to be suckered into a continuation of the 'let's re-fight the Civil War', or was it the 'who's is bigger than who's' thread. Got so confusing...

No worries. What happened then cannot possibly impact your life today.
