Well, i recently was able to pick up a 1943 Izzy. Last weekend, i was able to break it down and clean that sucker REAL good. Here are some pics of the event.

Breaking the bolt down. I scrubbed it with a rag, and then used boiling water to get out the stuff deep inside the mechanism.

It is a VERY nice dark color, which is exactly what i wanted in my mosin. Heres a pic running down the side of the gun

Well, after i got the gun apart, and the bolt nice and clean, i got to the bore. The rifling is very much present, and the bore is in great shape

    Another one of the bore

The only MAJOR cosmetic issue with the gun is what appears to be a smearing of what could be the seal put on the stock

    Head space test...looking good

All of the wood on the rifle is original, all excapt a VERY small replacement piece towards the end of the barrel.

At this point, the rifle is nice and clean, so everything begins to be put back together

Here it is, all clean and ready to go!

Just a couple of notes, the thing is sealed like rubber. When the bolt is locked and you tap on the barrel, you can hear a nice "popping" sound. The same thing goes for when a round it place in the barrel. When I slid on in, i could hear the thing seal. I can't wait to take this thing out for a spin! Alright, i did mine, now it's your turn DeadeyeChrista'sDad to get that Tula review up!

Pop's not feeling well, so ham n bullets got postponed.

I, however could not wait. I only ran a couple of rounds through her, but it was GLORIOUS!!!

We TOTALLY ran off those dirty capitalist steel pieces!

That is an interesting repair on the wood...why would they repair that and not just replace it? Anyone know the history? By that question I'm thinking about the Ex-sniper rifles that have the wood repair by the scope mount. Was there a variation of this rifle that required a section of wood to be altered at that position of the rifle?

Picked one of these up and is a very cool accessory for the Mosin. Seems very good quality and handy as hell.

    Mosin Nagant buttstock pouch

Reading the description... Sorry, but I'd rather have a "moldy old pouch produced in the Soviet Union during WWII" ORIGINAL pouch. For the same reason I bought a vintage sling rather than a brand new one when my Mosin didn't come with one. But to each his own...
