School me on muzzleloader sabots. I was looking at the pics of my deer from Monday and I can see a nice exit wound puring blood. The fact that there was an exit would...does than mean the shockwave didn't mushroom? Or very little at that? It was a 60 yard shot.

Exit would has almost nothing to do with what shape your bullet did with POI other than travel path. You need to find the slug to know that. Most likely it mushroomed out, and clearly did its job.

Remember, it's not the size of the round, its the cavitation that does the damage. And yes, larger bullets cause larger cavitation or temporary cavity.

I use the sst's which are basically the same thing. I like the sabot's that you get with the Hornady's better.

I've been shooting 250gr shockwave since I bought my TC Omega 5yrs ago and have shoot many deer with them and never had one walk away from the shot. I mean it drops them like a rock. Two years ago I shot a nice buck on opening day of gun season. The buck was on a doe's back mounting her and he was facing away from me on a steep hill. I shot him through the back and it completely destroyed a lung and the heart and buy the time the smoke cleared he was not even kicking. I did let him finish his business before I took the shoot. I have retrieved 3 bullets from opposite side shoulders and these bullets mushroom nicely and do a great job.

I use the 200 gr shockwave for the kids to shoot. I load 60 grain of 777 and they have killed deer out to 100 yards. They seem to be a great bullet.

I'm shooting powerbelts from my cva wolf, 245's with 100 grains behind it. From the 2 deer i've taken and recovered bullets, here's what they look like. Deer was aprox 20yds, no exit wound.

I've never shot 150 grains, figure 100 is plenty for me. Deer haven't gone more then 20yds if that. I hope to get one soon and see if i get the same results. I enjoy shooting my ML.

100 grains is plenty, 150 in my gun throws them around a little. Plus it is hard to shoot the 150 grains prone. I can shoot the 100 grains all day prone if I choose too. I have killed deer over 170 yards with that powder charge and wouldn't be afraid to go out to 200. I have been waiting for my 200 yard shot, just haven't got it yet.

To me it is more about accuracy than mushrooming performance. A well-placed .50 caliber round is going to take down a deer whether or not the bullet expands optimally or not IMO.

I have a CVA Wolf and was getting really good performance from the cheap sabots the other day, better than the powerbelts - but I'm still sighting it in.... I'll go with whatever round is most accurate.
